What's News

31 May 2014
2013 came and went so quickly and here we are half through 2014 already.  It has been a very busy time and we’ve attended many field days and shows.  We’ve had a lot of success at shows with many broad ribbon wins.  This has provided us with the assurance that we are on to something good with our breeding program.

A very important addition to our breeding program was the purchase of an outstanding young bull named Bangalla Harry. Many long time breeders of galloways are saying that he has outstanding muscle pattern and is one of the best ‘beltie’ bulls they have seen in many years.  We are eager to see what will be the outcome of this crossing.  Calves are expected late December 2014 to early 2015.

3 February 2013

It is a very exciting time each year when we are waiting for our calves to arrive, and this year it just seemed to drag on and on, but they finally arrived.  Our first was a bull calf who just made it into 2012, and our second a heifer,  was born on January 6, 2013.  They are both doing well and the mum’s have come through amazingly well, they just look terrific, wouldn’t even know they’ve just given birth.  You can see photos of them if you go to our calves page.

Canberra Show 22-24 February, 2013

It’s almost show time again, it’s hard to believe it’s come around so soon.   Preparations are well under way at Diamond B Farm.  We are busy primping and preening the ‘girls’ so they will look their best on show day.  Judging for the mini belties this year is on Friday, so if you are going to the show and want to drop by to talk about cows and have a look at our cuties we’d love to see you.  You can find us in the cattle marques adjacent to the cattle judging rings.

Murrumbateman Field Days 20-21 Oct 2012

Murrumbateman Field Days

What a weekend, sunny skies, shady trees, a nice breeze and cows!!, what more could you want!

Now in its 34th year the MFD brings together over 400 exhibitors displaying farm machinery, equipment and services that focuses primarily on small acreages.  Now as a mini ‘beltie’ breeder, I believe there is no more perfect addition to any small farm than a couple of mini ‘belties’.

Our breed association (Australian Galloway Association) put on a great display.  We had six ‘belties’ ranging in ages from a week old through to mature cows.  It was such a great weekend there were so many people who wanted to talk to us and ask us about our cattle.  I’m amazed how many people are really interested to hear more about ‘belties’.

This was our first outing at Murrumbateman and based on this years experience it will become an annual event for DMB Galloways

July 2012 – Stud Beef Victoria Cattle Handlers Camp11-13

Found a great course to attend run by Stud Beef Victoria, their annual Cattle Camp.  Hope to pick up many ideas and techniques for handling cattle.

26 February 2012

What a great time we had at the Canberra Royal, from sun up, to sun down, cleaning out bedding, shampooing and combing, its all about the ‘girls’..  I’m absolutely thrilled with winning a ribbon.
DMB Faith won her class and also took out the Reserve Junior Champion Miniature Galloway Female 2012 Royal Canberra.

Feburary 2012

Having finally decided what path we want to follow with our ‘belties’, we are preparing for our first ever outing, the Canberra Royal Show 24-26 February.  There is so much to learn about preparing your cattle to look their best for show day.  Getting them to walk, now there’s a challenge!  Hope I can get this together in time.  After all, what ‘girl’ doesn’t like to spend time in the beauty parlour, getting a shampoo, cut and blowdry, the DMB ladies will be looking their best.
